As far as the oil cost goes it is not only the online vendors that are making a larger profit that is what the cost is at the scout store...even more $23 for a bottle of oil, not sure of the quantity in the bottle. Same thing with my local hobby store. It seems right now that is that going rate for cub scout oil. I would not fault anyone for selling a product at the going rate.

I honestly do cast a little bit of side-eye at the Scout Store for it. They're supposed to be giving the Scouts affordable options, IMO. I suspect, though, they just buy stock from Derbyworx and sell at whatever the retail markup for that is.

I remember hearing 5K say that he used tungsten carbide cutters for his weight because he got it free at work...
figured that that he meant the indexable stuff.
I believe that I have seen piles of it on eBay pretty cheap... maybe it was Alibaba

(Though, I wonder how pure tungsten cubes actually are?)

This is a quick video of wheel truing. youtu.be/CEc_ytZr9NsIt doesn't take that long to do it. And for what glenn and dd4h charge they have no place to complain about money.

Betcha that riddle gets solved soon. Im having one made as we speak. Its a full length fixture. 1 will cost me $150. I believe if I had 100 made they would be in the $40 range.

I still wonder if it would be possible to make a dedicated PWD wheel lathe that wasn't crap (like the Pro Wheel Shaver) at a 50 dollar price point.

No getting around that one I think VK...
Gotta be a lathe.
That Pro Wheel Shaver is the pet peeve that really sticks in my craw...
I mean... Anyone with the know-how to design/make one of those things knew that it was snake oil to begin with.

I have some ideas, but they need more time to ferment.

jeez bro...
not to piss on your bonfire... but...
Just a few bearing and you are over the $50
A lathe is a serious tool and that is why it is so precise...
It is the only tool that can make any other tool.
You need that heft and rigidity to get things perfect.
I suggest that you put your brilliant mind towards other endeavors.

Back to the topic of storage bottles for the synthetic wax. I asked gravitymafia to scope out the resin type on his bottle of Blackfire, and he told me it was PET-E. That jives pretty well with my understanding of good storage materials. Also, I cruised a forum on auto detailing and the topic of product storage came up, and it sounds like PET or PVC is the way to go. So I'm going to stick with the little PET bottles unless somebody can convince me otherwise.
