Shit... I can’t leave you guys alone for a second without you wandering down some fucked up dead end.
The rail is 1.625” wide.
The stick of wood is 1.75” wide.
Nuff said.

2018 I hope to race eventually. Added the "Green Mamba" name and some graphics for more interest. Car is a DD4H pre-drilled body (zero cant rear, 3 in front, Left DFW) and I'll be running Razor wheels like on my 2016 car. I still need to figure out how to set the weight distribution and COG & COM and how much steer (thinking 2.5" over 4' due to razors). If I can find the funds I'll run oil, if not ... then it's good old graphite for last place in Eliminator ... again. Any Pro tuning tips are welcome.

It doesn't matter if the stick of wood is 1/2" wide, or 3" wide, it doesn't touch the rails. What's important is where the wheels ride. The wheels have hubs, and are canted, so with a 1-3/4" body there is plenty of clearance without notching the FDW. IF the car runs straight the rear wheels will never touch the rails, the wheels don't know if they're clearing the rails by 1/8" or 8".

While this is true... I have seen some pretty fast cars that get a shimmy/sway going...
Saw one by QT that was fast as hell shaking her ass down a good portion of flat...

For Scouts I think it's a no-brainer. Usually the quality of builds aren't quite as good, the tracks can be horrible, and improper staging can cause a lot of problems. In fact, whenever we notch the FDW we go at least 1/8".
At the "pro" level you have the best quality builds, running on the best tracks, and being staged by industry professionals. As with most choices in this sport, it's a risk-reward analysis. Risk the wheels hitting the rail, but have a better aero profile, or notch the FDW, have more clearance in the rear, but also a larger aero profile.

Well looks like "Snake Bite" got her new paint job after the disaster with the clear coat on the old paint job. Much brighter than the black & red .. though I had hoped to do Orange & Red, I was out of Orange May or May not do one more coat of clear, we'll see how smooth it is after it dries some. I think it's going to look pretty good with BSA wheels on it, too bad I don't have a hot rodded set of color wheels .. red in back and white in front, that would look crazy. Maybe later in the year.

Not that I would change it. But, if you wanted another color a yellow smoke in the very front might be cool. And, since I'm guessing you brushed the name you could put just a little yellow "blood" in the name.
Your paint jobs are inspiring. I would love to see video and/or the steps.
I recently attempted my first flame job. I decided to do a blue flame with spray cans. Of course, it is a challenge on a 1 3/4" X 7" canvas.
But, seeing this makes me question if you got out the air brush, have a technique I have yet to see/figure out, or if it is just shear artistry.

Had to use the colors I had on hand, which are pretty limited at the moment. All done with tape and spray cans and a little brush painting. Regular masking tape won't do the job, assorted sizes of automotive vinyl striping tape is needed. You can find it at CoastAirbrush.com or a local automotive paint shop. For flames on a car this size you would either start with 1/32 tape or use wide tape and cut the pattern off the car and then apply the mask to it.

P.S. if I were to add yellow, I would do the same pattern but use yellow instead of white and just do the front tip in white to suggest the "hottest" point (like a flame). But that's just m, there isn't any wrong way really.

Paint looks nice. I wouldn't mind seen some in between photo steps.

Paint looks nice. I wouldn't mind seen some in between photo steps. People have been asking how I did this and that on my paint jobs. When I get some extra coin, I'll get a body and do a paint job video. I think video would be better than photos and my poor typing and it would be great for my YouTube channel that needs work.
