I wonder if anybody's ever considered a Pinewood Derby test/tune service?
Like, say you own a 42 foot Best Track in good repair. You have a space for it so you can keep it set up. You build a bearing car and get an average time for it, then you send the same car to each of the leagues and get the time it runs there, and keep this as a multiplier to approximate how your track runs in relation to the league tracks.
Then, you let people send you their cars. You run them on the track, report times and then take feedback from them on what tweaks they'd like you to make (e.g. more/less steer, gap adjustment). The number of iterations you'd run for them would be based on whatever your rates were per iteration. Once you'd gotten the car to the state that the person wanted, you'd box it back up and send it off...not back to them, but to the race that they'd planned to run in.
Just a musing as a possible way to fill the gap for those without access to track testing.

Tune by proxy. I would be interested. It would be better than what I'm doing right now. I'm currently paying $30/month to tune my car, with 4 weeks between each iteration.

Truth be known, I enjoy designing, building, and tuning more than racing.

Don't even think about it guys... The "powers that be" will just bad mouth you and shut it down.
First... John will have the top racers go out and tell everyone that the test and tune is crap...
Then they will take away your voice from every forum until you are left mumbling to yourself about the money you wasted...
Then they will brand you as "bad for the hobby".
It is all a dog and pony show... nothing is real in the leagues.

Well, none of the "Big Boys" would be interested anyhow. After all, they all have their own tracks and wouldn't want a 3rd party handling their car anyhow. Secret stuff under there, don'cha know? Anyhow, the current leagues are not the vector to the growth of Pinewood Derby as a hobby. I think that model has hit its peak.

They hit their peak because that is where they want it...
Growth would just bring the potential for fellas more skilled than them to weigh in... and that is the threat that they fear most.

Eh, I would think they all want more racers. The more people racing, the more monthly income the league owners make, and the more parts the vendors sell. Sometimes the vendors and the league owners are the same people, so double the incentive. I just don't see enthusiasm increasing at this point. Proxy racing can only be so interesting. The build, ship, watch (if your Internet isn't crappy), wait-for-return cycle can drag. With R/C or slot cars, you're actually there in person participating as opposed to watching. Proxy is a crutch, not a solution.

Vendors and leagues don't care about league racers... small potatoes.
The scout market is where they set their attention.
As long as the leagues don't interfere with that then they are happy.
Too big of a league and it could effect sales of the big potatoes.
Can't let the window dressing take over the point of the whole thing... to separate the scout dad from his wallet.

Think it is a coincidence that I get banned from everywhere this time of year?
Gotta get ready for the new crop of scout dads.
Summer is winding down... Time to get serious and get other vendors or fellas that don't toe the line outta the way.

The whole thing is rigged from start to finish.
They are probably trying to figure out a way to get rid of MB as we speak.

Reminds me: I need to set a timeline for this kickstarter for scout oil kits. It needs to happen soon if I'm gonna catch the next Scout Derby Season wave. Is micro planning on making more jigs to sell in the future?

I believe that he is.
Seriously though, VK...
I don't advise you waste your time.
They will bully you out... they have it down to a science by this time.

Remember BD? He used to shamelessly swing for John and bad mouth me and my products... Then he got bullied out too as soon as he decided to be a vendor.
They can do it to anyone.
