I can't remember the last time I felt like such a rookie.
That was dope!
It takes like 10 minutes just to setup my drill press/Dremel gear to do a tuning groove.
You are like the Benihana of the PWD!
please post a photo of the end result when you have time.
I have gotta give this a try.
Thanks for posting the video!

I have gotta give this a try. I wouldn't recommend it for the mere mortals. Especially not using a dermel. That handpiece is smooth as silk and runs to VERY tight tolerances as does the mandrel and "Joe Dandy". The axle does get hot...very hot. Looks like my filming and focusing skills still need improvement. I should mark the center of the axle head so I hit the mark a little better as I seem to be slightly off center.

Impressive. I gave up using Dremels. This Brownell fixture and a metal hacksaw take me less than 15 seconds to put a perfect Khouse in.

This thread is getting good!
That thing looks pretty cool Skywalker.
Not nearly the pizazz of the Microbrush method, but probably more my speed.

That website is pretty dope SkyW!
"Just wanna say that website is awesome. I have no idea what I'm looking at, but it looks really cool and makes me feel wholly inadequate. Haha"
Jeez! $43 for a file.
Gun fellas are clearly more obsessive than derby guys.

Im planning on having a batch of axles made and the machine shop will put that groove in every axle for me. the cost is pennies

I don't think that it would be too hard to make a devise like that. Use delrin for the guides for the saw. I think I would use a brass screw to hold the axle. How about putting the axle in shrink tubing to protect it?
Jim, I hope that your shop is able to precision grind the axle, not simply turn them.

How about putting the axle in shrink tubing to protect it? That's my preferred method, yes.

Ive talked with them and shown them steves velocity pros. Ok heres whats funny about this, I took one of Glenns, Johns, and Steves axles there. Steve's axle won the surface finish contest. Glenn was a distant second and Johns was dead last. Now Steve got a 18 to 24 surface finish. Glenn was in the 30s. So they said I would have a 24 finish. these axles cost $2.10 a piece

Good info!
It makes one realize that there really isn't much markup on those things.
I used to grumble about paying over $3 for a tiny nail, figuring it cost vendors about 25 cents.
Is there a higher machine polish than 18 to 24?
Thanks, Joe
