Joel just announced that in the May race, Street Rod will be "Street Rod Pro" (bearings). :/ The question for me, then, is do I take the absolute drubbing, and race only myself, or save the $20+ and wait for June?
Whatchu think?

I don't follow as close as necessary to have answers, so I'll ask.
Is it a points race? Do you need the points for the end of the year?

Whatchu think? I mean, just racing yourself is not too bad of a proposition. Especially since SRs don't even have much traffic to contend with, given the head-to-head style they run with (booo). Especially if you have some new innovations to test.

I don't follow as close as necessary to have answers, so I'll ask. Is it a points race? Do you need the points for the end of the year? I assume it's a points race. I've no interest in points. I've only been submitting cars sporadically. I remember last March, I tuned my SR on our church/scout track, and found something like 0.4s in speed (I know! ). I submitted to the April race, and ran 0.02 slower than the previous race and took dead last. I built essentially a BASX car for that church/scout race and it screamed. I added fenders and switched to BSA wheels (we run Max-V) and submitted it as a Box Stock. The car was a total tankslapper and cruised to an easy last place. To top it off, it also came in last place in the Showstopper voting. I didn't race again for months. I'm not driven to win (note my reluctance to spend $ ). I really enjoy building the cars, and would be completely content with mid-pack. I would definitely like to win the Showstoppers voting... At the same time, I want to support Joel and the MNOP. I'm just prattling on (as I'm prone to do). I guess the answer is: race myself and support the MNOP. Oh, and beat VK again in BS , this time with a completely legal car (conversion from MV to BSA wheels added a gram to the car, taking it over 143g).

If your only racing to race, then pick when it's convenient for you. If you have it done and wanna run it, race. If you need to prep and times running short, wait.
always more fun when you do things that fit your schedule.

Especially if you have some new innovations to test. The main innovations will be more and betterer wheel prep, and adding spacers to counter the reverse cut wheels. Maybe "fenders", but I'm realizing I've got a boatload of work to do if I'm going to submit to MA and to MNOP and have motorcycle junket with my FIL and brothers-in-law. I've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there.

When I read the word "points", my eyes glaze over and I start skimming the paragraph. I guess the points determine the overall winner of the series?

I believe that's the case. And I would guess that they then take all the points each builder earned in all the classes to determine the MOTM. Not exactly anything I currently have any expectation of participating in. If your only racing to race, then pick when it's convenient for you. If you have it done and wanna run it, race. If you need to prep and times running short, wait. always more fun when you do things that fit your schedule. Sage advice.

May was the 2nd SR Pro race I think, it's like every 3rd race (Feb, May, August ?).
Need more people running Street Rods. I love seeing those cars going down the track.

You know that I'm a disciple of the Street Rod. Why does SR need a bearing class, though? Seems like there's enough opportunities for folks to get their bearings jollies without needing to water down an already small class.

I think the thinking there was to possibly bump up the numbers by making the cars $60 more expensive.
