I had no idea.
Being a computer programmer looks exciting and fun!
That is kinda what I look like when I am battling someone on a PWD forum at 2AM.

How did the old "Dry lube only" rule come about anyway?

Probably some fool drenched his car in motor oil one time and it got all over the track...
The cars all got messed up with the oil and were slipping from people's hands and smashing on the floor.
Then some old lady slipped on some of the oil and cracked her tailbone... after that the wording was "dry lube only".

Yeah, I suspect that the default prohibition of oil in the scouting world is due to mis-use of oil in early efforts. Some kid's car would come oozing 3-in-1 and leave droplets down the track. Or some dad would spray his kid's car with WD40 and melt the bores. Instead of trying to get people to use oil properly, race organizers just found it easier to say "Only Graphite is Allowed!"

Unfortunately the graphite flying all over the place cost our pack it's racing venue. We used to hold it in the schools gym like many do and apparently did not follow the "Leave No Trace" rule and did not get all the graphite off the floors.

When we have our workshops, I always have to go and wipe down the tables with rubbing alcohol to get the stuff off. I am hoping that more and more districts will come around to understanding that oil is good. Also, oil should be cheaper...much cheaper. I really need to get that Kickstarter going...

Maybe this should be a regular feature. I completely agree! I'm finding this passive-aggressiveness rather enjoyable. It's just too bad that "First, Better, and in Color" Dolshenko hasn't offered up any of his Smithsonian worthy creations. <* Hugh Jackman scene from Swordfish *> Apparently, if I name all my variables "qwerty" and "poiuy", I can write a worm. With cool graphics on screen verifying my efforts. (20s mark) And randomly banging on the keyboard... I had no idea. Being a computer programmer looks exciting and fun! I believe that Krytox is a more recent addition to the oils than is the "dry lube only" rule, so I have doubts about any knowledge on how to get people to use oil properly. But, I do believe you are absolutely correct in oils getting turned away because of excesses of 3-in-1 or Pam cooking spray dripping onto the track, and table, and check-in person's hands.

Does anybody know this guy?

I know a guy who HAS to use oil for his kids' Awana cars, because the church banned graphite after it got all over everything following a race.

Ok... It isn't an unreasonable story, I suppose...
Betcha somebody had it in for that scout troop besides the graphite though.

You just made the list.

The good list, or the bad one?
