Okay Eagle,
Here's one headed your way for the vintage 1953 class,, it's been awhile since i'v tried to do a 2020 retro version of the vintage 1954 Boy's Life car .
This time around with a driver in the seat that's wood carved.. and a paint job to make it look like it's been around the track's.. for quite a few heat's!
Tried my best to capture that vintage and raced look with the paint brush's and crafts paints once more.. on the Boy's Life car remake.
Hope your kid's will get a kick out of seeing it run in the true 1953 fashion.. on 8 penny finish nail axles and no graphite or oil lubes .
The first car like this the kid's of Cub Scout Troop 189 in Hugoton Ks.
& I built together was at my very first work shop with them back in 2009 for the 100th anniversary to Scouting..
In Memory of the Pinewood Derby Founder Don Murphy.
The car was somewhat modeled after the car drawing seen in the Oct 1954 Boy's Life Magazine. ( adding the head rest the kid's liked at the time!)
The kid's also liked the paint scheme seen in the Pinewood a game with a purpose image above.. so that's what we tried to capture as well for the paint job.
This is what the kid's wanted the car to look like for the race.. on there 35 ft best track it ran an avg time of 3.088. (no lube!)
On April 17 2010 I raced it at WIRL in the open class 45 ft track.. avg time 3.674. (no lube!)
Then last year while at Mid America I gave the car one last run down there test track time was 3.488 (untouched with no lube!)
Before retiring the car that the kid's and I gave to Joe Guerrero to put on display in his Pinewood Derby Museum.
Never once did the kid's and I give any thought's that the car would ever end up in a Pinewood Derby Museum for all to see at the time we made it together!
And never once did we do anything to the car but race it as it was built.
Well Eagle, here it is 11 years later.. since I'v tried to do a remake of the car with a driver in it.. on my own with out help from the kid's!
Hope your Kid's will enjoy seeing it run in the vintage class.
